Beer Spotlight: Hero Boy

Who doesn’t love the holidays? I know Cape May County does. Wildwood loves it so much, they even celebrate Christmas in July. As a matter of fact, there are a couple of retail stores nearby that sell Christmas merchandise all year round! Every day throughout December leading up to Christmas, there is a tree lighting, a parade, a regatta, a hospitality night or a breakfast with Santa (or the Grinch) in a community throughout Cape May County. Amidst the holiday shopping frenzy, there is a never ending array of family friendly activities that take place. The key word there is family - MudHen Brewing Company is all about family. Although our beer can only be served to people who are 21+, we do our best to provide an atmosphere for people of all ages.

Owner and restaurateur Brendan Sciarra’s success is inspired by his father’s success as an entrepreneur who created Kona Surf Company right down the street. Tony Cunha, our master brewer is all about family as well. Tony’s son was born on Christmas Day, so Christmas is two times as special for his family. All our MudHen beers have a little #historyineverysip, local and personal. Our holiday celebration brew, Hero Boy is a Belgian Strong Ale has flavors of sweet and tart cherry with a touch of cinnamon. Hero Boy is named after the main character in the 2004 film, Polar Express. The first present Tony’s son received was a remote control Polar Express train set for around the tree. It just seemed fitting for when MudHen Brewing celebrates our in-house tree lighting, Hero Boy should be there also.

Stop in MudHen during the Christmas season and treat yourself to a Hero Boy. Stay for a while and pair this brew with one of smoked meats or sweets. This Belgian Strong Ale is amazing with our homemade smoked brisket seasoned with bbq spice & homemade bbq sauce served with baked beans, coleslaw & cornbread then get super decadent with our Ultimate Chocolate Cake served with chocolate sauce, strawberries & whipped cream because you deserve it.
